How it Works
Set it up once.
It runs itself.

ChoreGate uses Apple's Family Controls framework to manage app access directly on your child's device — enforced at the operating system level, not through a VPN, browser filter, or anything a kid can turn off.

1

Add Your Kids

Create a profile for each child in the app. Set their daily lock time, bedtime schedule, chore list, and whether tasks need your approval.

2

Authorize on Your Phone

ChoreGate requests Apple Family Controls permission on your iPhone. You choose exactly which apps and websites to restrict for each child. Takes 30 seconds.

3

Chores Unlock Apps

At your set lock time, your child's selected apps are shielded by iOS. When they complete all their chores, the restrictions lift automatically.

4

You Stay in Control

Override the lock anytime from the app. Review task completions, approve or reject, and see exactly what each kid has done. Both parents can manage independently.

Features
Everything a parent needs.

Built by parents, for parents. Every feature solves a real problem.

🔒

OS-Level Enforcement

ChoreGate uses Apple's ManagedSettings framework — the same technology behind Screen Time. Restrictions are enforced by iOS itself. Kids can't bypass it by switching apps, using a different browser, or any workaround short of jailbreaking.

🛡️

Zero Traffic, Zero Tracking

Unlike VPN-based solutions, ChoreGate never routes, intercepts, or sees your child's internet traffic. We don't know what apps they use or what websites they visit. We only know if their chores are done.

Approval Mode

When enabled, apps only unlock after you personally approve each completed chore. No slipping through — you decide what counts as "done."

📱

Parent App

A clean iOS app shows you every child's status at a glance. Lock or unlock manually, assign chores, and approve tasks from anywhere.

🔔

Instant Notifications

Get notified the moment a child finishes all their chores, submits a task for approval, or gets locked. Always know what's happening.

🔁

Recurring Chores

Set chores as daily, weekly, or on specific days of the week. Checklists reset automatically — no manual management needed.

👨‍👩‍👧

Co-Parent Access

Add a second parent so both of you can manage the family from your own phones. Both get notifications and can approve tasks independently.

Automatic Scheduling

Set a lock time and bedtime per child. Their apps automatically lock each day until chores are done, and again at bedtime. Wake time unlocks them in the morning. No reminders needed.

📊

Progress Dashboard

See each child's task completion percentage, lock status, and recent history. Know at a glance who's on track and who needs a nudge.

📍

Places & Geofences

Define named zones — home, a second home, school, tutor, anywhere. Each Place gets its own radius, so you can be precise at home and generous around a campus. Split custody? Add two homes. More features coming (arrival/departure alerts).

💵

Allowance with a Ledger

Chores with dollar values auto-credit each child's balance. When you cash out or record spending, attach a note — "Cashed out $40 to Brooklynn," "Birthday money from Grandma" — and every entry is date and time stamped. A real paper trail you and your co-parent both see.

📲

Find Every Device Per Kid

Kids with an iPhone AND an iPad? See both under the same child with their own last-known location, battery, and last-seen time. Tap any device to open Apple Maps at that specific location. Runs on our own protocol — no Apple ID, no Family Sharing, no Find My entanglement. Your data, your family, your rules.

What Parents Say
Real families. Real results.
★★★★★

We went from arguing about screens every single night to just… not. My 12-year-old does his chores without being asked now because he knows exactly what's at stake.

★★★★★

My daughter tried every trick to get around screen time limits — changing the clock, deleting apps, everything. ChoreGate uses Apple's own controls so there's literally nothing she can do to bypass it. First thing that's actually worked.

👨
David K.
Dad of 3, California
★★★★★

The approval mode is genius. I can see a photo of the clean room before the apps come back on. No more "I did it" when they clearly didn't.

FAQ
Questions & Answers
Can my kid bypass ChoreGate? +
ChoreGate uses Apple's Family Controls framework — the same OS-level technology behind Screen Time. App restrictions are enforced by iOS itself, not by a third-party app or VPN that a child can disable. The only way to bypass it is to jailbreak the device, which voids the warranty and requires significant technical skill. For the vast majority of families, it's effectively unbreakable.
Which devices does ChoreGate support? +
ChoreGate currently works on iPhone and iPad running iOS 16 or later. The parent app runs on the parent's iPhone, and restrictions are applied to the child's iOS device through Apple's Family Controls. Android support is on our roadmap.
What happens during the school day? Will it block homework? +
You're always in control. Set a daily lock time — say, 3:00 PM after school — and apps stay available before that. You choose exactly which apps to restrict, so educational apps can stay accessible even when restrictions are active. You can also override the lock instantly from the parent app for homework emergencies or special circumstances.
Does ChoreGate slow down my child's device or internet? +
Not at all. ChoreGate doesn't route any traffic through external servers. It uses Apple's native on-device controls to show or hide apps. There is zero impact on internet speed, battery life, or device performance.
What does the child see when their apps are locked? +
When locked, restricted apps show Apple's standard Screen Time shield — a simple message that the app is unavailable. The child can still use any apps you haven't restricted (like Phone, Messages, or educational apps). When they complete all their chores, the shield lifts and everything comes back. With Approval Mode enabled, you personally confirm each chore before apps unlock.
Do both parents need the app? +
You don't need both, but it works best when both parents have access. On the Household tier you can invite a co-parent who gets their own login, full dashboard access, and push notifications. Both of you can approve completions and override locks independently — no more "ask your dad" handoffs.
Is my family's data private? +
Absolutely. ChoreGate never sees, routes, or stores your child's internet traffic. We don't know what apps they use, what websites they visit, or what content they access. The only data we store is parent account information, child first names, chore lists, and whether tasks are complete. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What's the difference between Solo, Family, and Household? +
Solo ($4.99/mo) is for one kid, with manual lock and unlock — you decide when apps lock and unlock. One child, one parent, simple.

Family ($7.99/mo) is the right call for most households. Up to 3 children, unlimited chores, and — the big one — scheduled lock so you set times once and never think about it again. Plus the allowance system, where kids earn credits for completed chores.

Household ($9.99/mo) adds unlimited children, co-parent access, approval mode for kids who interpret "done" creatively, and per-child schedules so each kid gets their own lock times and bedtime.

You can switch between tiers any time.
How does the 14-day free trial work? +
Every new account gets 14 days of the Family tier for free, no credit card required. Set up your family, use scheduled locks, allowance, multiple children — the full experience for two weeks. After 14 days, pick a tier that fits. If ChoreGate isn't for you, you don't owe anything and your data is deleted.
How is this different from just using Screen Time? +
Screen Time lets you set blanket time limits, but it doesn't know if your kid has done their chores. ChoreGate adds the missing link: conditional access. Apps lock at a time you set, and they only unlock when chores are actually completed. It also adds approval workflows, co-parent management, allowance tracking, and a dashboard that shows you what's happening across all your kids — things Screen Time alone can't do.
